What is the Museum of Hoaxes?
What started off as a simple search into eccentric museums, soon turned into a pretty whimsical yet challenging discovery. Inviting us into the world of deception, mischief, and misinformation throughout the ages, The Museum of Hoaxes entices us to explore its intriguing collection, with a catch.
The museum doesn’t exist.
Atleast not in a physical location.
As the intrigue deepens, the quest to uncover The Museum of Hoaxes' physical location takes an unexpected turn. Eager to pin down its whereabouts, you find yourself led on a virtual trail, tracing the elusive threads of its existence. However, the pursuit seems to be a clever ruse, guiding you through twists and turns that ultimately lead you back to its website.
This clever play of misdirection adds an extra layer of amusement to the exploration of the museum's commitment to the theme of hoaxes. Instead of a tangible destination, the journey itself becomes an integral part of the experience, leaving you with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the artful deception woven into the fabric of The Museum of Hoaxes.
Objective
Totally smitten by the chaotic feel that this Museum brings it’s audience, I set out on a few different tasks to tackle for this project.
Develop a logo that reflects the museum's theme of hoaxes and mischief. Something that both captures it’s mystery but also truthful whimsy.
Create a design that seamlessly integrates with it’s online platform.
Maintain a sense of mystery and playfulness in the visual identity.
In the conceptualization stage, various ideas were brainstormed to encapsulate the essence of hoaxes and mystery, involving an exploration of visual elements from the Victorian era such as magnifying glasses, freakshow paraphanelia, question marks, and free mason like design.
Conceptualization
Final Concept
The Museum of Hoaxes' final logo creatively intertwines two symbolic gestures, the Scout's Honor hand sign and crossed fingers, capturing mystery, hope, and the playful nature of deception. The Scout's Honor signifies trust and commitment, merged with crossed fingers symbolizing deceit. This fusion results in a visually compelling logo that aligns seamlessly with the museum's theme and represents its dedication to unraveling mysteries with a sense of playful wonder.
